Reverting back to standard ARBs
The soft top ran an H&H front and rear anti-roll bar kit, which felt amazing on the hard top. It relocates the ARB further forward and uses some Porsche-style drop links to ensure more control of the front end. On my hard top, these were amazing. However, on the soft top, they were bad, the drop links caught on everything, and, as the soft top has the equivalent of a scaffolding pole in each sill, the handling is already not great compared to the hard top. Therefore the benefits of the kits can not be felt.
If you can find this kit for your tin top Golf MK1, get some, but don't waste your time putting them on a soft top.
I reverted back to the standard ARB's front and back and managed to find the old front ARB knocking about in the garage, which I cleaned up and painted.
Got some new rubber bushes from the front end ARB as the front end needs a bit more compliance.
I got everything I needed from CrazyQuiffs for the back, including the rear ARB, ploy bushes and stainless mounting clamp for the rear outer bushing.
While I was under the car, I wire-bushed the rear axle down and treated it to a coat of paint.
